πŸ“– Don't Get Stuck There

Life Group Leader Guide

πŸ“Œ LEADER'S BULLETIN

Leader Heart Check
You are not just facilitating a discussion this week. You are shepherding people who may be carrying quiet disappointment, tired of fighting, or settled somewhere God never meant them to stay. Lead with patience and a listening ear, and trust that the Holy Spirit is already working in the room before you say a word. Your faithfulness matters more than you know.

Attendance Reminder

Please log your group's attendance in the Church App or email by Sunday. Your faithfulness in tracking helps us stay connected as a church family.

πŸ”‘ CONNECTION KEY (Leader Briefing)

Core Theme: God calls us to keep moving forward with Him, refusing to stay stuck in disappointment, distraction, or comfort.

Key Discussion Goals:

  • Help group members honestly name the disappointments and unmet expectations they are carrying

  • Encourage them to identify which battles deserve their energy and which ones are pulling them off mission

  • Invite reflection on whether comfort has quietly replaced growth

  • Leave with one faithful next step each person can take this week

Leader Tip: Consider opening with a little laughter. Ask the group what kind of driver they are, whether the Lane Switcher, the Green Light Honker, the Back Seat Driver, the Passenger Princess, the Road Rager, or the Power Parker. It lowers defenses and sets up the idea that our patience, or lack of it, shows up everywhere. Then be ready to shift gently, because the first point touches real hurt involving family, friends, and church relationships. Some people may not be ready to share details. Give them room to speak in general terms, avoid pressing for names or stories, and affirm that naming a wound honestly is the first step toward healing. Keep the energy hopeful, since the goal is to move forward rather than dwell on pain.

Key Phrase: "The habits you practice in peace help sustain you under pressure."

3 Places We Refuse To Get Stuck.

Don't Get Stuck In Disappointment With People.

Jeremiah asked an honest question: why do people who hurt us seem to prosper while we struggle? Disappointment often comes from those closest to us, including family, friends, and even companions from the house of God, and left alone it can grow into confusion and damage that keeps spreading. God invites us to bring the wound to Him, name it honestly, and examine the expectations that went unmet. From there we pray, asking whether we are focused on God or people, and we remember Jesus’ word to Peter that another person’s path is not our concern and our calling is to follow Him. We seek wise counsel and take the next faithful step, trusting that those who sow in tears will reap with joy.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What expectations did you have of someone that were not met, and how has that shaped the way you relate to them now?

  2. When disappointment comes, what is your first instinct: to pray, to vent, or to pull away?

  3. Are you more focused on pleasing God or pleasing people right now? When have you been tempted to ask β€œwhat about them?” instead of simply following Jesus?

  4. Who are the wise voices in your life you can turn to when you are hurting?

Don't Get Stuck On The Wrong Battles.

God asked Jeremiah how he would contend with horses if footmen had already worn him out. The question points to a hard truth: some battles are training for greater ones, while others only pull us off our assignment. Nehemiah refused to leave his great work to answer his opposition, and Job endured devastating loss without letting go of worship. David kept moving toward his assignment despite his brother’s criticism, and his earlier victories over the lion and the bear prepared him for Goliath. Smaller battles develop the endurance we need for greater ones, and we fight them in grace rather than in our own strength.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What keeps getting your attention that no longer deserves so much of your energy?

  2. Think of a smaller battle you faced in the past. How did it prepare you for something bigger?

  3. Where are you tempted to fight in your own strength instead of leaning on God's grace?

  4. How can you tell the difference between a battle that is building your endurance and one that is pulling you off your assignment?

Don't Get Stuck In Comfortable.

Jeremiah's question did not end with the footmen. If the land of peace wore him out, how would he handle the floodplain of the Jordan? Comfort can become a safety net we outgrow without noticing, and it can leave us unprepared for the pressure ahead. Daniel prayed three times a day just as he always had, and that habit sustained him when the decree came. Scripture warns against the complacency that says we need nothing, and Jesus reminds us that even His going away was for our good, so the Spirit could lead us further. Growth often begins when we are willing to leave what feels safe.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your life have you settled into comfort when God may be calling you to grow?

  2. What daily habits are you practicing in peaceful seasons that will sustain you when pressure comes?

  3. How have you seen God use a season of change or loss to move you forward?

  4. What would it look like to depend more on the Holy Spirit and less on your safety net?

πŸ›  Practical Application

The Challenge
Choose one place where you have been stuck, whether a disappointment with someone, a battle that is draining you, or a comfort zone you have outgrown. This week, take one faithful next step. That might mean having an honest conversation, asking a trusted person for wise counsel, laying down a distraction, or starting a daily habit of prayer. Share your step with someone in the group so they can encourage you.

Audit / Reflection
Take a few quiet moments to ask yourself: Which of the three places am I most stuck right now: disappointment with people, the wrong battles, or comfortable? What expectation went unmet, what is taking my energy, or what safety net am I leaning on? What would moving forward look like this week?

Prayer Focus
Pray over your group, asking the Lord to heal the wounds of disappointment and to release people from the weight of what others have done or failed to do. Ask Him to give each person wisdom to know which battles are theirs to fight and grace to leave the rest with Him. Pray for courage to step out of comfort and into everything God has prepared, and for a daily rhythm of prayer that will sustain them in every season.

πŸ“£ Weekly Declaration

I will not stay stuck where God has already made a way forward. I release my disappointments to the Lord and trust Him with every wound. I choose to fight the battles that matter in His grace rather than in my own strength, and I will leave the rest in His hands. I will build habits in peaceful seasons that carry me through pressure. I am growing, I am moving, and I am following Jesus into everything He has prepared for me. Amen.
