📖 Trapped

Life Group Leader Guide

📌 LEADER'S BULLETIN

Leader Heart Check
You are not just facilitating a discussion this week. You are a shepherd standing beside people who may be quietly caught in something they have not named out loud. Walk into your group with open eyes and a soft heart. The God who shut the mouths of lions is already in the room, and He can use your simple faithfulness to help someone take the first step toward freedom.

Attendance Reminder

Please log your group's attendance in the Church App or email by Sunday. Your faithfulness in tracking helps us stay connected as a church family.

🔑 CONNECTION KEY (Leader Briefing)

Core Theme: The enemy sets traps to catch us, but God gives us a way to live free, trust Him in the lions' den, and speak His decree over every situation.

Key Discussion Goals:

  • Help group members recognize the different kinds of traps the enemy uses: the pit, the net, the snare, the cage, and the ambush.

  • Encourage each person to live differently, with excellence and integrity, so their lives make a difference.

  • Build confidence to trust God in situations that cannot be controlled or fixed.

  • Remind everyone that being trapped is never the final word, because God's decree outweighs every accusation.

Leader Tip: Some members may recognize themselves in the descriptions of the snare or the cage, and those moments can feel heavy or vulnerable. Do not rush to fix anyone or pull stories out of people. Create space by sharing a little of your own story first, then let others respond at their own pace. Keep the tone full of hope, since the sermon moves from the trap to the victory. When you discuss decrees and keys, keep the focus on agreeing with God's Word and trusting His heart, not on finding the right words to get a result. If someone shares something that needs more care than a group setting allows, thank them for their courage and follow up privately with prayer and a pastoral connection.

Key Phrase: "Trapped is not the final word."

Paul reminds us that we are not unaware of the enemy's schemes, and that begins with knowing how he works. The pit is a trap you fall into, hidden on the path. It looks like solid ground until you put your weight on it. The net entangles you, starting by catching one part of your life and then affecting every part. The snare tightens as you try to move away, and what you thought you could walk away from now has a hold on you. The cage is the captivity after the catch, and the ambush draws you out into vulnerable places. Yet David reminds us that the Lord will pluck our feet out of the net.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Which of these traps (the pit, the net, the snare, the cage, or the ambush) do you think people fall into most often without realizing it? Why?

  2. Think of a time something looked like solid ground but turned out to be a pit. What did you learn from it?

  3. What does it mean to you that "the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him"?

3 Ways To Break Free.

1. Be Different To Make A Difference.

Daniel was placed in a system built on accountability, and the king would suffer loss in any area where there was none. Daniel thrived in it because submission is for people who have a mission. He distinguished himself through an excellent spirit, seen in his attention to details, his attitude, his hospitality, and his conversations. His integrity ran deep, because his heart was pure, and his enemies could find no corruption or negligence in him. When pressure came and a decree threatened his prayer life, he went home, knelt down three times a day, and gave thanks just as he had done before. Daniel stayed the course under pressure, and that steady difference is what made a difference.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your daily life, at work, at school, or at home, do people notice something different about you?

  2. Daniel's excellence showed up in small things like details, attitude, hospitality, and conversations. Which of those areas is the hardest for you right now?

  3. What does it look like to stay the course when pressure rises and the cost of faithfulness goes up?

  4. How can this group help you protect your habits of prayer and thanksgiving?

2. Trust God When You Can't Control The Outcome.

Daniel was sealed in a den, and the outcome was completely out of his hands. The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, and his favorite weapon is intimidation, the whisper that says, "It will cost you." Scripture tells us the fear of man is a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. Something spiritual is happening in your physical situation, just as Elisha's servant discovered when his eyes were opened to see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire. Daniel came out without a wound because he trusted in his God, and the Lord still sends His angels to encamp around those who fear Him and deliver them.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What kind of intimidation (fear of cost, fear of people, fear of loss) tends to speak the loudest in your life?

  2. Think of a season when you could not control the outcome. How did you see God show up?

  3. If God opened your eyes like He did for Elisha's servant, what do you think you would see around your current situation?

  4. What would it look like for you to trust God this week in one specific area you cannot control?

3. Trapped Is Not The Final Word.

The story does not end in the den. Daniel was lifted out, the trap fell back on those who set it, and the king issued a decree that the God of Daniel be feared and honored across the kingdom. Only the king can decree, and what he decrees, he becomes bound to his word. A decree sets a spiritual boundary in motion. A declaration you can fight, but a decree is a law you cannot fight against. Jesus, the Word made flesh, has given us the keys of the kingdom, and when we speak in agreement with His Word, what is bound on earth is bound in heaven. The enemy digs the pit, but he is the one who ends up falling into it.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you that a decree is stronger than a declaration?

  2. Where do you need to stop agreeing with the enemy's version of your story and start speaking God's Word over it?

  3. Why do you think God allowed the trap to turn back on the accusers? What does that tell us about His character?

  4. Who in your life needs to hear that trapped is not the final word?

🛠 Practical Application

The Challenge
This week, follow Daniel's pattern and set three short moments each day to pray and give thanks, even if it is only a few minutes each. Choose one area where you feel pressure or entanglement and bring it to God in each of those moments. Speak His Word over that area out loud, then share one answer or breakthrough with your group next week.

Audit / Reflection
Take an honest look at your life this week. Is there a place that looked like solid ground but now feels like a pit, a net, or a snare? Ask yourself where fear of man or fear of cost has been shaping your decisions. Then ask where you have grown quiet about your faith, and what one step would bring you back to the steady, consistent integrity Daniel lived.

Prayer Focus
Pray together for open eyes to see what God is doing behind the scenes. Ask the Lord to expose every hidden pit and loosen every net or snare. Pray for courage to stay faithful under pressure, and that each person would trust Him in the places they cannot control. Close by thanking Him that the enemy's plans will fall back on his own head, and that trapped is never the final word.

📣 Weekly Declaration

I am not unaware of the enemy's schemes, and I will not be outwitted. I choose to be different so that I can make a difference, with excellence in my spirit and integrity in my heart. I will stay the course under pressure, and I will pray and give thanks just as I always have. I trust God in every place I cannot control, because the angel of the Lord encamps around me and delivers me. I decree that trapped is not the final word over my life, my family, or my future. Amen.
