Flourishing
Life Group Leader Guide
π LEADER'S BULLETIN
Leader Heart Check Leader, before you gather your group this week, take a moment to breathe. Shepherding isn't about having every answer β it's about walking faithfully, one step at a time, just like the flourishing life you'll be discussing tonight. The Lord sees your labor, even when it feels small, and He is planting you deep so you can bear fruit for years to come.
Attendance Reminder
Please log your group's attendance in the Church App by Sunday. Your faithfulness in tracking helps us stay connected as a church family.

π CONNECTION KEY (Leader Briefing)
Core Theme: True flourishing isn't found in circumstance but in the fear of the Lord β a reverent, trusting relationship with God that becomes a path we walk, a posture we hold, and a protection we rest in.
Key Discussion Goals:
Help group members understand that the fear of the Lord is not about being afraid of God, but about honoring, trusting, and walking closely with Him
Explore what it looks like practically to "walk in His ways" day to day
Identify areas where members may be leaning on their own strength instead of resting in God's protection
Encourage members to see seasons of waiting or difficulty as part of being "planted" for future fruit
Leader Tip: This topic can surface tension for group members who associate "fear of the Lord" with a harsh or punishing God, especially given the Uzzah and Dagon passages. Be ready to gently reframe: reverence and awe are rooted in love and relationship, not dread. Give space for people to voice discomfort with those Old Testament passages before moving toward the fuller picture of God as protector. Watch for members who may be in a "waiting" season β this discussion may bring up frustration or discouragement, so hold space for honesty rather than rushing to resolution.
Key Phrase: "Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land."
The Fear Of The Lord Is⦠A Path
The fear of the Lord is first and foremost a path β a way of walking through life that shapes every step we take. It's not a single decision made once, but an ongoing journey of honoring God with our choices, our time, and our trust. Scripture is clear that those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways experience blessing, not because obedience earns favor, but because walking in step with God naturally leads to a life aligned with His good design. This path requires faith, since without it, it's impossible to please Him. And the beautiful promise woven throughout is that God draws close to those who seek Him earnestly, sharing His heart and guiding their steps.
Reflection Questions:
What does it look like practically for you to "walk in God's ways" in your current season of life?
Where have you seen blessing follow faithfulness, even in small ways?
What's one area of your life where you're being invited to trust God more deeply right now?
How would your daily decisions change if you truly believed God rewards those who earnestly seek Him?
The Fear Of The Lord Is⦠A Posture
Beyond a path we walk, the fear of the Lord is a posture we hold β steady, rooted, and unshaken regardless of circumstance. Like a tree planted by rivers of water, those who fear the Lord don't wither when heat or drought comes; they stay green because their roots run deep into Him. This posture is marked by humility, honor toward others, and a refusal to be tossed around by every shifting circumstance or opinion. The Shunammite woman models this beautifully β her posture of honor and hospitality toward God's prophet flowed directly from her reverence for God, and it positioned her for blessing. Flourishing isn't about avoiding hard seasons; it's about staying rooted through them.
Reflection Questions:
What does it mean to you to stay "rooted" during a season of heat or drought in your own life?
Where do you see the Shunammite woman's posture of honor showing up (or missing) in your own relationships?
How do humility and honoring others connect to reverence for God in your daily life?
What practices help keep you steady when circumstances are shifting around you?
The Fear Of The Lord Is⦠A Protector
Finally, the fear of the Lord is a protector. The story of the ark reveals a sobering truth β when Uzzah reached out irreverently, it cost him his life, showing that God's holiness is not to be treated casually. Yet the same ark that brought judgment to Uzzah brought devastation to Israel's enemies when it was captured and placed beside their false god Dagon, who could not stand in its presence. God doesn't need us to defend Him or fight on His behalf β even Jesus reminded Peter that legions of angels were available if needed. Those who fear the Lord find in Him a secure fortress, not because they've earned protection, but because reverence positions us to trust His strength instead of our own.
Reflection Questions:
What's the difference between fearing God out of dread versus fearing Him out of reverence and love?
Where in your life are you tempted to "fight your own battles" instead of trusting God's protection?
How does knowing God is a "secure fortress" change the way you face uncertainty?
What would it look like to hand a specific worry or battle over to God this week?
π Practical Application
The Challenge
This week, identify one area where you've been striving in your own strength instead of walking in reverent trust of God. Take one concrete step to hand that area over to Him β whether through prayer, a conversation, or a change in how you're approaching it.
Audit / Reflection
Ask yourself honestly: Is my fear of the Lord shaping my daily decisions, or has it become a Sunday-only idea? Where have I confused self-reliance with strength, when God is inviting me to rest in His protection instead?
Prayer Focus
Pray that group members would grow in reverent, trusting relationship with God β one that produces a rooted, unshaken posture regardless of circumstance. Ask God to reveal any areas of self-reliance and to replace them with confident trust in His protection and provision.
π£ Weekly Declaration
I choose to walk in the fear of the Lord, not out of dread, but out of love and reverence for who He is. I am planted by the rivers of His presence, and I will not wither when heat or drought comes my way. I release my need to fight my own battles, trusting that He is my secure fortress. I will stay rooted, humble, and honoring toward others as I walk this path He's set before me. I believe He is giving me room to flourish, right where I am. Amen.
