📖 Flourishing Family
Life Group Leader Guide
📌 LEADER'S BULLETIN
Leader Heart Check Leading a group is, in many ways, an extension of leading a household, you're creating an atmosphere where people can grow, be discipled, and find a seat at the table. Before you gather your group this week, ask God to help you steward the atmosphere you carry, at home and in your group. Your presence sets a tone that people will feel long before they hear a word you say.
Attendance Reminder
Please log your group's attendance in the Church App by Sunday. Your faithfulness in tracking helps us stay connected as a church family.

🔑 CONNECTION KEY (Leader Briefing)
Core Theme: A flourishing home is built intentionally, through the atmosphere we create, the discipleship we pour into our children, and the restoration we extend to those we bring to our table.
Key Discussion Goals:
Help group members identify the current "atmosphere" in their home and what's shaping it
Distinguish healthy discipleship from enabling, overprotection, or passive parenting
Encourage members to see restoration and belonging, not just correction, as part of family leadership
Invite honest reflection on generational patterns members may be repeating, for better or worse
Leader Tip: This topic can surface pain for members from broken homes, absent parents, or difficult family dynamics, be sensitive that not everyone's "table" growing up was safe or whole. Some members may not be parents and could feel disconnected from parenting-specific content; broaden the conversation to include spiritual parenting, mentoring, and the atmospheres they create in any relationship or home they lead. Avoid letting the discussion turn into parenting technique debates, keep it centered on the heart postures behind the examples (Eli, David, Rebekah).
Key Phrase: "Don't save your children from adversity. It's the only thing they'll find themselves."
3 Assignments For A Flourishing Home.
Create The Atmosphere
Every home has an atmosphere, one shaped by sound, tone, and spirit, whether it's cultivated intentionally or left to chance. Jesus modeled this in the home of Jairus, putting out the noise of unbelief and commotion before He released life into that house. Left unchecked, things like unresolved anger, fear, gossip, and resentment set the tone of a home just as much as praise and gratitude do. Ultimately, someone decides the atmosphere in every household, and Scripture calls us to be the one who chooses to serve the Lord and steward peace, whether or not anyone else does.
Reflection Questions:
What would you say is the current atmosphere in your home right now, and what's shaping it?
Which "commotion" (anger, fear, gossip, resentment) tends to sneak into your home the most?
How have you seen the atmosphere of a home change once someone decided to shift it?
What's one practical way you can set the tone of peace and praise in your home this week?
Intentionally Disciple
David describes children as "olive shoots," not olive trees, on purpose, because a shoot is immature by definition and requires patient, intentional cultivation. Scripture gives us cautionary examples of discipleship gone wrong: Eli's love without correction became enablement, David's guilt led to passivity, and Rebekah's overprotection turned into manipulation that Jacob inherited. Just as an olive must experience pressure to mature, our children and disciples need to face appropriate adversity rather than being rescued from every hard thing. When discipleship is done well, it produces people who become healers, worshippers, contributors, and eventually leaders who carry light to others.
Reflection Questions:
Which of the parenting patterns (Eli's enabling, David's passivity, Rebekah's overprotection) do you relate to most, and why?
Where have you tried to "save" someone you're discipling from adversity they actually needed to grow?
Who models Christlike discipleship for you, someone you could say "imitate me as I imitate Christ" to?
What's one area where you sense God inviting you to disciple more intentionally, whether with children, mentees, or others?
Make Room At The Table
David's kindness toward Mephibosheth, a broken, forgotten descendant of Saul, shows us what restoration looks like: a permanent seat at the table, not a temporary act of charity. God is described as One who sets the lonely into families, meaning a flourishing home always has room for those who don't naturally belong there by blood. The father in the parable of the prodigal son didn't just tolerate his son's return, he ran, restored his position, and threw a celebration, moving him instantly from a table of shame to a table of honor. A flourishing family isn't only about who's already at the table, it's about who else we're willing to invite, restore, and make room for.
Reflection Questions:
Who is someone in your life who, like Mephibosheth, needs to hear they still have a place at your table?
Have you ever experienced being restored to a "table" you thought you'd lost your place at? What was that like?
Is there someone God is inviting you to bring into your family or group who feels lonely or forgotten?
What would it look like this week to move someone from feeling like an outsider to feeling truly welcomed?
🛠Practical Application
The Challenge
This week, identify one "atmosphere shifter" (anger, gossip, resentment, or fear) currently present in your home, and take one intentional step to replace it with praise, forgiveness, or peace.
Audit / Reflection
Ask yourself honestly: Am I discipling those in my care with intentional love and appropriate boundaries, or am I enabling, overprotecting, or being passive out of my own fear and guilt?
Prayer Focus
Pray for God to reveal anyone He wants you to make room for at your table this week, and ask for the courage and grace to extend restoration the way David did for Mephibosheth.
📣 Weekly Declaration
I decide the atmosphere of my home, and I choose peace, praise, and forgiveness over anger, fear, and resentment. I will disciple with intention, offering love that corrects and adversity that builds character, not enabling or overprotection. I will make room at my table for those who feel forgotten, lonely, or far from grace. I believe my home can flourish because I fear the Lord and walk in obedience to Him. My family is blessed, and I declare that it shall be well with my house. Amen.
