📖 Flourishing Family

Life Group Leader Guide

📌 LEADER'S BULLETIN

Leader Heart Check

Before you gather your group this week, take a moment to breathe in what God has already done in your own home. You are not just teaching a lesson, you are shepherding families toward flourishing, and that starts with your own heart being tended first. Let the Lord speak to you personally about your household before you lead others into theirs.

Attendance Reminder

Please log your group's attendance in the Church App by Sunday. Your faithfulness in tracking helps us stay connected as a church family.

🔑 CONNECTION KEY (Leader Briefing)

Core Theme: We flourish when we invite God into every part of our lives, tending our environment, adjusting our care to the season, and trusting God with the damage we couldn’t control.

Key Discussion Goals:

  • Help group members identify the spiritual and emotional atmosphere they’re cultivating at home

  • Explore what it means to disciple others intentionally rather than just love without correction

  • Create space for honesty about wounds or damage from the past that group members didn’t choose

  • Point every member toward restoration as a real, available outcome, not just a concept

Leader Tip: This topic touches family, parenting, and past wounds, so expect a wide range of emotional responses in the room. Some members may feel convicted about their own home atmosphere or parenting choices; others may carry pain from their own upbringing that surfaces unexpectedly. Create space for both without rushing to fix or resolve everything in one sitting. Watch for members who go quiet during the “care will look different in different seasons” section, since this often touches nerve around parenting guilt, and gently invite rather than press them to share.

Key Phrase: “We’ve all been dropped, but there is still restoration.”

3 Assignments For A Flourishing Home.

Environment matters (Create The Atmosphere)‍ ‍

A plant cannot flourish in the wrong soil, no matter how good the seed is, and the same is true in our homes. The atmosphere we create through our words, our habits, and what we tolerate shapes everyone under our roof. Unresolved offense and gossip may feel justified in the moment, but they poison the environment we’re asking our families to grow in. Instead, we’re called to guard our words and intentionally position ourselves and our households in the presence of God through worship and consistent connection to church community. You decide the atmosphere.

Reflection Questions:‍ ‍

  • What would you say is the current atmosphere in your home right now, and how did it get that way?

  • Is there an unresolved offense or pattern of gossip you’ve been carrying that’s affecting your environment?

  • What’s one practical way you could intentionally shift the atmosphere in your household this week?

  • How does staying connected to church and Life Group help you maintain a healthy spiritual environment?

Care will look different in different seasons (Intentionally Disciple)‍ ‍

A plant needs more water in spring and more protection in winter, and the people we’re discipling need something similar. Eli discipled Samuel but not his own sons, showing us that love without correction becomes enablement. Rebekah’s overprotection of Jacob became manipulation that shaped his character for years to come, a reminder that we tend to pass on our own brokenness if we don’t deal with it first. True growth often comes through pressure and adversity rather than by being shielded from it, since suffering produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character and hope.

Reflection Questions:‍ ‍

  • Where might you be loving someone without offering the correction they actually need?

  • Have you noticed any patterns of overprotection or control in how you care for others, and where might that come from?

  • What unresolved brokenness in your own life might you unintentionally be passing on to your children or those you disciple?

  • How have past seasons of adversity actually built character or perseverance in you?

Some damage is out of our control (Restoration)‍ ‍

2 Samuel 9:7-11 (NIV)

Psalm 68:6 (NIV)‍ ‍

Sometimes a plant is damaged not through neglect but through a storm completely out of its control, and the same is true for us. Mephibosheth was crippled as a child through no fault of his own, dropped while fleeing danger, and left forgotten in a place called Lo Debar. Yet David sought him out and restored to him everything that had been lost, inviting him to eat at the king’s table for the rest of his life. Whatever family we come from or wounds we carry that we didn’t choose, being dropped doesn’t disqualify us from being restored.

Reflection Questions:‍ ‍

  • What damage or wound have you experienced that wasn’t your fault, but has still shaped how you see yourself?

  • Have you ever felt like Mephibosheth, forgotten in your own “Lo Debar”?

  • What would it look like to receive God’s restoration over that specific area of your life?

  • Who in your life might need to hear that being dropped doesn’t disqualify them from restoration?

🛠 PRACTICAL APPLICATION

The Challenge

This week, identify one specific atmosphere shift you can make at home, whether that’s eliminating gossip, addressing unresolved offense, or creating more consistent moments of worship and prayer together.

Audit / Reflection

Take an honest look at whether you’re disciplining out of love or ministering out of your own wounds. Ask yourself: am I overprotecting someone in a way that’s actually hurting them more than helping them?

Prayer Focus

Pray specifically over any damage or wound group members carry that wasn’t their fault. Ask God to bring restoration to broken family lines, lost relationships, or painful seasons, and to set the lonely into family.

📣 WEEKLY DECLARATION

I invite God into every part of my life, including the parts I’ve kept hidden or hurt. I choose to create an atmosphere in my home that reflects His peace, not offense or gossip. I will care for those around me with both love and correction, trusting God to guide me through every season. I release the damage that wasn’t my fault into God’s hands, believing He restores what was broken. I am not disqualified by what was done to me or by me. I am being restored. Amen.
